Here’s the Thing…
I love getting mail. I always have.
However, getting mail is a little boring these days. (Student loan bills, anyone?) So I have to send fun mail to myself!
Cue the Ipsy Glam Bag monthly subscription.
I know there are a lot of subscription boxes out there, but Ipsy is my favorite for a few reasons.
First, it is one of the most reasonably priced. At just a little over $10, I feel like it is the most justifiable thing for me to receive every month. Which leads me to reason #2…..
Since it is so reasonably priced, I can afford to get it every month, not just once a season and I don’t feel bad about the price. I spend $10 a month for something I really enjoy and get a lot of use out of. Which brings me to point #3…..
I love getting to try new brands of makeup. I’ve never been into makeup, and I’ve especially never been into paying full price for good makeup brands, but I do enjoy experimenting with new things. Also, every now and then, Ipsy will send me a really nice brand of makeup that I know I would never buy at full price. So it’s a win-win for everyone!
I’m generally satisfied with my monthly bag, and this month was no different! I even got an extra item this month!
Here is a look at my December Ipsy Glam Bag:
First of all, the bag is sooooo gorgeous! I figured they were going to send me the typical red, green and white Christmas colors, but I really appreciated the classy look of the light blue and sparkles.
Also, one of the items in my bag was a face mask, and they actually sent me two of the same one! Score! So my friend Natalia and I had a pamper day together. And that put my item count at 6 items instead of the usual 5.
Finally, they sent me a MAC mascara! Not only was I in desperate need of new mascara, but I love MAC products and I would never pay full price for them. So I was pretty satisfied.
Alright, without further ado, my December Glam Bag Review! (I guess I should say that all opinions are my own, and Ipsy does not sponsor me at all. Although I wish they did.)
Item #1: Smashbox Cosmetics Always on Gel Eye Liner in Fishnet
Usually, when I get an eyeliner I use it once and throw it in my pile of makeup that I never use again. I have hooded eyes, so typically anything I put on my eyelids ends up smeared all over the place. So I really did not have high hopes.
However, when I was in the restroom at work a few hours later, I noticed there was only a little smudge in the corner of my eye instead of all over my eyelid. I was really surprised.
When I got home, the liner wasn’t as perfect as it was in the morning, but it certainly was better than other eyeliners I have used.
Item #2: MAC In Extreme Dimension Lash Mascara in Black Extreme
(That’s a lot of extremes…)
I received a mascara in last month’s Glam Bag, but typically with the sample size mascaras, they only last about a month, so I was in the market for a new mascara. I was so excited when I got mascara in this month’s bag, and I was even more excited when I found out it was MAC!
I’ve literally only bought MAC makeup once, but my mom used to get all get makeup from there, so I think that’s why I think it’s so great.
This mascara is okay. If you read my post about why I don’t like eyelash extensions, you’ll know that I am an eyelash snob (you’d think I would actually consistently invest in good mascara….) This particular type of mascara just doesn’t thicken my eyelashes, nor does it give them much length. Really, it just turns my existing eyelashes black, but not much else.
What I can say about this mascara is that I really like the brush. It’s pretty big, so it does a good job of making sure the mascara doesn’t clump.
Overall, I’m not super wowed by this product, but I am really grateful to have new mascara and it’s a good brand, so I can’t complain too much!
Item #3: Trestique Mini Brow Pencil in Americano or Espresso
First of all, I don’t even know if the brow pencil I received was in Americano or Espresso. So that should give you a pretty good idea of how I feel about this product.
To be fair, I’m just not a big fan of brow pencils; I have never been. I’m not sure what it is because when I see other girls that have really nice looking eyebrows, I really like them. But when I do my eyebrows I feel like I literally look like a dog. I have no idea why.
So I am biased about this product, but I really am not the biggest fan of it. I don’t like the chalky consistency of it and I feel like you have to put so much on for it to even look noticeably different.
Item #4: FEEL Brilliant Bamboo Charcoal Facial Sheet Mask
I immediately loved this product because they sent me two! Also, I love charcoal products, so I knew I would like this one as well.
Every month my best friend Natalia and I have a girls weekend and since I got two of these masks, we used them for our spa/nail day.
There wasn’t anything special about this mask, but I love masks in general, so it was nice to try a new one. One unique thing about it was that unlike the typical masks that are usually clear or white, this one was black. So we looked a little silly with them on. I wish I had gotten a picture!
Item #5: Glamour Dolls x Lisa Frank Eye Shadow in Stargazing
Okay. How many of you 20-something women grew up with Lisa Frank products?!? I know I did. I always had her latest notebooks and folders and pens and anything else that had a raindbow unicorn plastered across the front.
I was STOKED when I opened my Ipsy bag and a Lisa Frank product came out!
I have similar issues with eyeshadow as I do with eyeliner: it looks good initially, but since my eyes are so hooded, it gets a bad crease it in quickly.
Not this eyeshadow! It stayed in place very well all day. Plus, the shimmery gold color is subtle but does still add a little pop to the eyelid.
With the combination of childhood nostalgia and overall product quality, I would have to say that the Lisa Frank eyeshadow was my favorite item this month. I am not exaggerating when I say that I never use eyeshadow. I just gave up trying a long time ago when it always looked bad a couple hours after applying it. And trust me, I’ve tried to use good brands; I tried to use an eyeshadow primer; nothing ever worked. So I am really excited that I’ve found an eyeshadow that finally stays in place!
That’s all for this month’s Glam Bag! Do you get Ipsy bags every month? What did you think of this month’s bag?
